There will be a one-day Mothers and Daughters self-defence workshop in North East Valley on March 11th, taught by Bell Murphy, an accredited member of The Women’s Self Defence Network–Wāhine Toa (WSDN-WT).
The course will provide a fun, supportive space for mums and daughters to learn and practice simple techniques—mental, verbal and physical—which anyone can use for staying safe and empowered no matter how big or little they are and no matter how big or strong an attacker might be.
"By sharing ideas and suggestions, rather than a list of do’s and don’ts, our programmes aim to increase women and girls' options and confidence for how to effectively resist abuse in a range of situations (strangers in public, people we know indoors and in our relationships)" says Ms. Murphy.
No experience needed. All women and girls (9yrs+) including transgender/takatāpui, of all abilities warmly welcome.
Cost: Koha/donation on the day for those who can afford to give something, free for those who cannot. All welcome!
Some lunch will be provided and childcare support can be arranged for those with young ones.
